Photography Courses North West & North West Midlands

The park is home to two herds of wild Red and Fallow deer who roam free over the parks 1000 acres of grassland and around the park’s lakes, providing exciting photographic opportunities. Alongside this the park has an abundance of other flora and fauna on display all year round as well as woodland areas and meres to explore. The walk begins at around 10:00am and we aim to finish at around 1.30pm. This is flexible depending on how we’re getting along. There is no classroom time, just pure photography although Andy will be on hand to provide plenty of useful advice and tips. The price includes a coffee/tea and a chat in The Stable Restaurant at the end of the walk. The price does not include entry to the park. A lens with a minimum focal length of 200mm would be very advantageous.

Please be aware that this involves walking through parkland and over uneven ground; you should be sufficiently fit and mobile to take part. Maximum of six students. Joining details will be issued a few days beforehand.

What will I learn:

f-stops- we'll tell you what these are and how to use them creatively to create both that dreamy background blur and to ensure your landscape is all in focus.

Focussing- we'll show you how to make your camera focus in exactly the correct place to get those elusive shots with pinpoint accuracy.

White balance- how to change the colours in your photo if they're not what you see or what you want.

Exposure Compensation- learn how to make your photos brighter or darker with no need for editing.

Buttons and dials- we'll help you understand what they do, how to change them and how and when to use them so that you have a better understanding of and feel more confident with your camera.

A fun, sociable and educational day, running from 10am until approximately 3:30pm.

This is a relaxed, day long workshop where we banish jargon and explain in plain English how to use manual mode like a pro and take your photos from great to spectacular, simply by deploying your secret weapon, which is composition.

Mastering manual on your camera will allow you to shoot landscapes with filters, create landscapes with 'smooth water' or moving clouds, photograph fireworks, light trails, and images at night. A strong command of composition will put you head and shoulders above the rest and will transform an ordinary image into something that you'd be proud to put on your wall.

We use a mixture of theory and practical throughout the day to help you understand how, why, and when to use manual mode use examples to help you understand the rules of composition. This workshop is both formal learning and field based and you'll leave with plenty of useful reference materials.

Light- you'll learn how the camera 'sees' light, how it differs to what our eyes see and how to use it to your advantage.

Landscape skills- we'll explain how to create 'smooth' water, use graduated and Neutral Density filters and capture movement in clouds.

Low light photography- you'll learn how to photograph fireworks, light trails, sparklers, create 'ghosts' and photograph in low light.

Composition- we look at the rules of composition including how using light and colour can change a shot.

Lenses- we explain how your lens choice can affect a photo and change the perspective.
