How light affects your shots and how to take correctly exposed shots
How to use graduated and polarising filters for better skies
How the right composition can transform your photographs
Useful information for landscape photographers at home and abroad
Where: Commencing in the classroom with a briefing to make sure that you know how to set up your camera, before venturing out to your locations for the day where your tutor will take you to the best vantage points to capture stunning images, and be on hand to answer your questions and discuss your images with you throughout the day. At the end of the day you'll return to the classroom to review and discuss your images as a group.
Cameras: All cameras welcome.
Equipment: To get the most from this workshop you will require a tripod (full height). Loan tripods are often available, please contact your local tutor.
Optional Equipment: Your tutor will be able to loan you graduated filters to try on the day. Useful, but by no means essential are your own graduated filters, polarising filter, remote shutter release.
Previous Experience: To get the most from this workshop, you should have attended our Explore Your Camera Part 1 workshop or be confident shooting in Aperture Priority and using Exposure Compensation.
Times: Full day, usually 10 am to 4 pm but please check your joining instructions.

YorkshireINTRODUCTION TO AUTUMN LANDSCAPES - BOLTON ABBEY
Join us at Bolton Abbey this autumn for a relaxed and friendly landscape photography workshop capturing the beautiful colours, reflections and atmosphere of the season. This workshop is designed as an introduction to landscape photography and is perfect for photographers who want to build confidence, improve composition and learn how to create more thoughtful, creative landscape images. Throughout the session we’ll explore a variety of scenes including wider landscapes, woodland details, reflections in the water and storytelling compositions — all while enjoying one of Yorkshire’s most beautiful autumn locations. This is a supportive group session with a real community feel, giving you plenty of opportunity to learn, practise and photograph alongside like-minded people.
Workshop Includes:
Online Zoom training session before the workshop, usually the Tues/Wed before at 6pm (recorded if you can’t attend live).
In-person group workshop at Bolton Abbey - 9am - 1pm
Optional personal online photo review after the session
Requirements
You must have completed our Get Off Auto workshop and be comfortable using Aperture Priority.
What to Bring
Camera
Standard lens (around 18-55mm recommended)
Zoom or ultra-wide lenses can also be fun to experiment with if you have them
Tripod (essential)
Grad filters useful but not essential — I’ll bring some along if you’d like to try them
Suitable outdoor clothing and walking footwear
Accessibility Information
This workshop is not suitable for wheelchairs and will involve walking over uneven ground for several hours while carrying camera equipment. Walking footwear is essential and participants should feel comfortable covering some distance during the session. If you’re unsure whether the workshop will be suitable for you, please feel free to get in touch before booking.
