Cardiff Forest Farm is a beautiful area tucked away surprisingly close to the city of Cardiff. It's easy to forget where you are when walking around the Glamorganshire canal and along the River Taff! The Long Wood was designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) in 1982 and along with the original local nature reserve they are now both part of the Country Park.
Along the canal towpath you will find the three-storey Sunnybank cottages, originally providing house for workers at the tin-plate works nearby.
The canal has a huge array of wildlife, various species of waterfowl and waterbirds can be seen, including mallard, moorhens and coots. There are even Kingfishers here if you're lucky enough to see an iridescent flash of blue whizz by! Spring and Summer will find many dragonflies and damselflies. Upon high there are often buzzards circling too.
The long wood is home to predominantly beech trees with many ash and some oak and alder trees. The range of species present is indicative of a centuries old woodland.
We don't currently have any workshops scheduled at this venue but we do have many workshops in your region.
