This workshop is both formal learning and field based, you'll leave with plenty of useful reference materials and a DSLR is available to borrow on the day, subject to availability.

f-stops- we'll tell you what these are and how to use them creatively to create both that dreamy background blur and to ensure your landscape is all in focus.

Focussing- we'll show you how to make your camera focus in exactly the correct place to get those elusive shots with pinpoint accuracy.

White balance- how to change the colours in your photo if they're not what you see or what you want.

Exposure Compensation- learn how to make your photos brighter or darker with no need for editing.

Buttons and dials- we'll help you understand what they do, how to change them and how and when to use them so that you have a better understanding of and feel more confident with your camera.

This is a relaxed, day long workshop where we banish jargon and explain in plain English how to use manual mode like a pro and take your photos from great to spectacular, simply by deploying your secret weapon, which is composition.

Mastering manual on your camera will allow you to shoot landscapes with filters, create landscapes with 'smooth water' or moving clouds, photograph fireworks, light trails, and images at night. A strong command of composition will put you head and shoulders above the rest and will transform an ordinary image into something that you'd be proud to put on your wall.

We use a mixture of theory and practical throughout the day to help you understand how, why, and when to use manual mode use examples to help you understand the rules of composition. This workshop is both formal learning and field based and you'll leave with plenty of useful reference materials.

On this workshop, you will learn how to create and expose for those stunning ‘smooth water’ images, how to use polarising and ND filters, and we also look at the art of composition and how to best capture the the beauty of The Lakes.

There will be a Zoom discussion in the week leading up to the workshop, which is usually on a Wednesday evening, with the practical part of the workshop, which lasts around four hours, taking place on the morning of 15th March in the stunning surroundings of Buttermere. Locations are however negotiable if you have any particular preferences. There will be plenty of time on the day to review your images, however there is also the option of a short personal review over Zoom.

Joining instructions will be emailed to you around a week beforehand, so that you know where to meet, what time and what to bring with you.

If you have ND filters please bring them along although a small number can be borrowed on the day. You will need to bring along a tripod to make the most of this workshop.
